believe in their beauty. It's vital for the survival of women.

About Ali Kozoll

Ali Kozoll is an active, vibrant, healthy, 35-year-old woman who is deeply connected to her feminine body.
She had no expectation that her first pregnancy would have complications. And it didn't...until the 9th month.

About 3 weeks before Ali's due date, she went from work to her routine weekly check-up. Her blood pressure had suddenly risen.
Her doctor informed her that she would not be returning to work. She was admitted to the hospital and given blood pressure
medication via IV, but it did not have any affect. Ali needed to deliver immediately.

Because she was not dilated, Ali's doctor recommended a Cesarean. Wrapped in hospital attire from head to toe, she was
wheeled into an operating room and given anesthetic as the nurses placed a blue partition between her line of sight and
her belly. Ali was numb from the waist down and felt nothing. She was visually and physically separated from her body
and from the birth of her child. She was overcome by fear.

After several minutes, the tender cry of Ali's newborn baby boy Jack entered the room. Blessedly, he was healthy and safe
and beautiful. He was taken to the hospital nursery while Ali's Cesarean incision was closed. It wasn’t until after her
surgery was over, and she was wheeled into recovery, that Ali got to hold her son Jack for the first time. While the arrival of Jack
was one of the most joyous moments of her life, the manner of his arrival was the most devastating body experience Ali has ever experienced. Like many new mothers, Ali had prepared herself for the expected hardships of motherhood such as lack of sleep,
loss of certain freedoms, and difficulty breastfeeding. She was prepared for motherhood to be hard as a parent, but she was not
prepared for it to hard as a woman. She was not prepared to feel loss of sexuality, sadness, anger, and resentment toward
her feminine body.

S Factor Founder and CEO Sheila Kelley chose Ali to tell her story in the Redefining Sexy: Believe in Your Beauty video campaign
because, "When a woman becomes a mother, it's like our culture ceases to see her as a woman. Women lose touch with their
sexuality and they swap it in exchange for the joys of motherhood. This is psychologically damaging. 79% of mothers suffer
from personal, emotional and physical challenges including low self-esteem. They no longer feel sexy. They no longer feel
beautiful. And there isn't anyone they can talk to about this."

Ali explained why she chose to become a part of this campaign: "I love my son Jack deeply. He is the sweetest, most patient,
curious and funny little boy and I wouldn’t trade him for anything. However, my arrival into motherhood left me feeling lost,
helpless, and alone, even with the wonderful support of my husband. I was desperate to reconnect with myself and to
find some semblance of joy I had felt in my body as a woman before I became a mother. I returned to an S class at 8 weeks
postpartum -- the very moment I was cleared to exercise. My body felt weak, angry, sad, perforated and battered.
My journey back into my body has been slower than I would like, but there have been moments of release, joy and strength.
They were able to capture some of those moments in the video. I'm currently taking time to nurture my feminine body and I know
my son Jack will have a happier, healthier mom, which, in turn, will allow him to thrive. I remain hopeful that motherhood is sexy!"
