Movie Corner - Eastern Promises

Eastern Promises tackles a dark topic with sensitivity and intrigue.  Ferociously magnificent Viggo Mortensen shines in his Oscar-nominated performance as a Russian thug wrapped up in a very real life issue - the European illegal sex trade.  The film is narrated in parts by a young pregnant girl, a victim of the trade, who dies mysteriously.  And the mesmerizing Naomi Watts plays a midwife who tries to figure out what happened.  The tense story is charged with suspenseful twists and turns but we've chosen to spotlight it this month because here we see a penis in everyday life.  Mr. Mortensen graces the screen with full frontal nudity in a much talked about fight sequence.  We hope you check it out at least for that scene, but all in all, the moving portrayals and this important topic, make Eastern Promises a definite one-to-watch.
